- President COMAMNUVI
friends who have joined us
Today I came to talk about Who is COMAMNUVI? It could simply say that the COMAMNUVI are a group of 10 women and a man were victims of Hurricane Mitch, now we are a cooperative maquiladora exports 98% of its production abroad.
All this is true, however, will only be telling part of the story.
Everyone here, we recall that in October 1998, Nicaragua was hit by Hurricane Mitch, which took us all by surprise. By then, we lived in the coastal zone Lake Managua. Living from fishing and informal trade. The torrential rains caused the Managua lake flooded the coastal area, devastating in its attack with everything they had been until then our environment. We moved with our families and children temporarily in makeshift shelters to finally be re located on vacant land in the municipality of Ciudad Sandino, and is now known as New Life. Fully
uprooted from our world started from scratch.
Our first homes were built with four sticks that served as pillars and black plastic. For us it started a new life and a new understanding and vision of our reality.
There is a popular saying: There is no worse than the fight is not done. We started making the fight against disease, the fight against filth, fighting despair. We are organized by block, by sector for the cleanups.
We had no means of livelihood to lose our boats, gillnets, our labor and selling seats that were occupied, leaving us no alternative.
We were aware of the need to find solutions that allow us to have a future with a means of economic subsistence.
In our walk, we stumbled on the Jubilee House Community foundation, which encourages us to take advantage of the organizational context we lived to define an activity that allowed us to dedicate ourselves and bring bread to our homes. By popular consensus here and we define ourselves to the apparel textile industry.
With the accompaniment of the Jubilee House Comunity, we formed the Women's Cooperative Maquiladora known as New Life International COMAMNUVI.
started a group of over a hundred women working hard to build the building where it currently operates COMAMNUVI. We did not pay, we did not know jack about construction.
In an act of courage hired a foreman who had to pay weekly. For this trusted appliances rifarlos and meet the teacher's weekly salary, in addition, women had to work as masons and this without receiving a single pay córdoba.
The lack of pay discourages many who are gradually receded, leaving at the end of the ten women and one man. Our work was the counterpart contribution of the Jubilee House Comunity who conducted the study for the business market - through its management obtained from the customers that still serve - and bought the first machines we use to work. Participated in training workshops on cooperatives and operating machinery, we learned to cut, sew, to control quality.
For 2001, we finish the job of building our cooperative. Currently, we are paying the loan that we made the Jubilee House Comunity to acquire the land where our cooperative, machinery and technical advice. For 2004 we began to operate under management for the free zone regime. Therefore constituted the corporation we call the "Zona Franca Masili" which operates under the trade name Fairtrade Zone (Fair Trading).
currently exports 98% of our production, we generate 49 permanent jobs for those living in the neighborhoods: New Life, Ciudad Sandino, Beautiful dawn and other surrounding areas. Categorically
affirm that the national and international cooperation oriented vulnerable sectors of society and accompanied by friendly and effective technical assistance can make a difference in the lives of a population. We are the living example of that.
This morning we are here to present our strategic development plan for 2008-2013, constructed by us, for us to achieve the growth levels we've set.
All this empowerment and independence we have achieved with the full support of MIFIC of Pemco, thanks to the solidarity of the world through its agencies that helped us in the difficult period of transition to a new life, thanks to the cooperation of the people of Nicaragua who gave us his hand.
Thank you all in our effort, insight and determination we present our Strategic Plan. Once again we appeal to your solidarity and asked them to join us and support the actions and activities we've planned to give continuity to our business growth. We are here to stay and put up the name of Nicaragua in the textile apparel sector. Thank
.
